Dense, absolute, immaculate — deep black granite from India.

Origin & Geography

R Black Granite is quarried from mafic igneous intrusions in peninsular India and processed into gangsaw slabs, counter cuts, and precision tiles at our Rajasthan facility. The stone benefits from the geological uniformity characteristic of large mafic intrusions: colour and density variation between blocks is minimal, and the material is available in consistent production volumes. Every consignment is graded before shipment.

Gangsaw slabs measure 280 × 180 cm, providing maximum yield for large-format floor and wall installations. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix. R Black is available as polished slabs, honed slabs, and in custom tile sizes.

Geological Profile

R Black Granite is a fine-to-medium grained mafic igneous rock with a high proportion of dark ferromagnesian minerals — principally augite and hypersthene pyroxenes, with plagioclase feldspar as the dominant light mineral and negligible quartz content. This mineral assemblage places the stone at the gabbro-to-norite end of the igneous spectrum, though it is commercially classified and traded as granite. The dense crystalline structure formed through deep crustal cooling produces exceptional mechanical properties and a very low void ratio.

Technical properties: density approximately 3.0 g/cm³ (notably higher than typical granites due to the high pyroxene content), compressive strength typically exceeding 200 MPa, water absorption below 0.1%, Mohs hardness 6–7. The near-zero porosity means the stone is virtually impermeable without sealing and is highly resistant to staining, moisture ingress, and freeze-thaw cycling — appropriate for the most demanding exterior and wet-area applications.

Color & Character

R Black Granite presents a deep, near-absolute black tone with minimal visible inclusions at normal viewing distances. The black colouration originates from very high concentrations of dark pyroxene (augite and hypersthene) and plagioclase feldspar minerals in a fine-to-medium crystalline matrix. The stone is also marketed under trade names including Absolute Black and Ash Black depending on region and supplier. Unlike many black granites that show visible grey or white inclusions, R Black reads as a consistently uniform black across slabs, making it among the most specified black stones for premium countertop, flooring, and feature wall applications.

Colour consistency is reliable within production runs. The stone responds well to multiple finish treatments — polished surfaces bring out the deepest colour expression, while honed and leathered finishes shift the character toward a more matte, tactile quality suited to flooring and exterior applications.

Applications

R Black Granite is one of the most widely specified black stones in the global natural stone market. Its near-zero porosity and uniform black tone make it equally suited to interior and exterior applications at the premium end of the market. Interior uses include kitchen countertops, bathroom vanity tops, feature walls, stair treads, and reception floors where the absolute black tone creates maximum design contrast. Exterior uses include facade cladding, steps, paving, memorial work, and architectural feature panels.

Gangsaw slabs (280 × 180 cm) are supplied for facades and large floor installations. Cutter slabs (180 × 60 cm) serve monument fabrication, stair and threshold work, and custom tile cutting. Standard tile sizes — 60 × 60 cm, 30 × 60 cm, 60 × 90 cm — are available cut and polished from our Rajasthan facility.

Finish Options

Polished finish achieves the deepest, most reflective black surface and is the most commonly specified finish for this stone; honed provides a sophisticated non-reflective matte black suited to floors and exterior paving; leathered adds tactile depth while maintaining the dark tone. Brushed finish is available for heritage and rustic applications.

Care & Maintenance

Granite requires minimal maintenance compared to marble. Its low porosity resists staining without sealing in most commercial and exterior applications. For kitchen countertop use, apply a light penetrating impregnating sealer at installation and reseal annually. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid harsh acids or bleach-based products on polished surfaces. For exterior installations, periodic pressure washing is sufficient. Polished surfaces retain their gloss well without re-polishing for many years in normal use.
