Balanced, timeless, architectural — the grey granite of North India.

Origin & Geography

Sierra Grey Granite is quarried from granite formations across North India and processed into gangsaw slabs, counter cuts, and precision tiles at our Rajasthan facility. The stone is valued in the export market for its consistent tone across production runs — the balanced light-dark speckling varies little between blocks, making it reliable for large multi-shipment projects. Every consignment is graded before shipment.

Gangsaw slabs measure 280 × 180 cm. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix. Sierra Grey is available in polished, honed, leathered, and brushed finishes, and in custom tile sizes cut at our Rajasthan facility.

Geological Profile

Sierra Grey Granite is a medium-to-coarse grained calc-alkaline granite with a balanced mineral composition: potassium feldspar and quartz as the dominant light minerals, with biotite mica and hornblende as the main dark accessory minerals. The roughly equal distribution of light and dark minerals produces the characteristic even grey tone. The interlocking crystalline structure formed during slow sub-surface cooling delivers high dimensional stability and strong mechanical properties across all applications.

Technical properties: density approximately 2.65 g/cm³, compressive strength typically 160–180 MPa, water absorption approximately 0.2%, Mohs hardness 6. These values confirm good frost resistance, scratch resistance, and long-term durability under UV and thermal cycling — appropriate for both sheltered interior use and full exposure exterior applications across a wide climate range.

Color & Character

Sierra Grey Granite presents a medium grey tone with a balanced, even salt-and-pepper mineral pattern — the hallmark of a well-formed grey granite. The grey background is produced by a roughly equal distribution of light-toned plagioclase feldspar and quartz crystals and dark biotite mica and hornblende inclusions. Neither the light nor the dark component dominates, producing the even, mid-toned grey that makes the stone one of the most versatile and neutral options in the North Indian granite range. The subtle silver undertone visible under direct light is produced by the reflective cleavage planes of feldspar crystals.

Colour consistency is reliable within production runs. The stone responds well to multiple finish treatments — polished surfaces bring out the deepest colour expression, while honed and leathered finishes shift the character toward a more matte, tactile quality suited to flooring and exterior applications.

Applications

Sierra Grey Granite is specified across a wide range of applications where a neutral, durable grey stone is required. Its even tone and excellent mechanical properties make it one of the most versatile options in the North Indian granite range. Exterior applications include paving, steps, exterior wall cladding, facade panels, and building bases where the stone’s frost resistance and weathering performance are primary criteria. Interior applications include commercial flooring, stair treads, reception areas, wall cladding, and bathroom floors where a sophisticated grey is the design requirement.

Gangsaw slabs (280 × 180 cm) are supplied for facades and large floor installations. Cutter slabs (180 × 60 cm) serve monument fabrication, stair and threshold work, and custom tile cutting. Standard tile sizes — 60 × 60 cm, 30 × 60 cm, 60 × 90 cm — are available cut and polished from our Rajasthan facility.

Finish Options

Polished finish reveals the silver-grey depth and individual crystal sparkle; honed delivers a soft, matte grey preferred for anti-slip flooring and exterior paving; leathered adds tactile surface texture appropriate for feature walls and heavy-traffic floors. Brushed finish is available for heritage and rustic applications.

Care & Maintenance

Granite requires minimal maintenance compared to marble. Its low porosity resists staining without sealing in most commercial and exterior applications. For kitchen countertop use, apply a light penetrating impregnating sealer at installation and reseal annually. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid harsh acids or bleach-based products on polished surfaces. For exterior installations, periodic pressure washing is sufficient. Polished surfaces retain their gloss well without re-polishing for many years in normal use.
